The folks at Rick Rack: Thread Therapy for Sewers continue their series of online workshops featuring well-known sewing experts.
This time, it’s Bari J. Ackerman presenting A Patchwork Rose Zippered Bag. This beautiful bag can be found in her book, Inspired to Sew.
In the workshop, she’ll walk you through the construction, helping you learn how to:
- – create a zipper placket;
- – piece and sew patchwork;
- – create inside and outside pockets;
- – make ribbon rosettes;
- – make and attach bag handles;
- – line a bag; and
- – construct a handbag
Registration for The Patchwork Rose Zippered Bag class is $59 for U.S. students and $69 for international students, and includes:
- – an autographed copy of the book, Inspired To Sew;
- – how-to video demonstration starring Bari J. Ackerman;
- – project instruction sheet with step-by-step color photographs;

- – a supply list.

I’m really loving Aviary 2 by Joel Dewberry in purple right now – but the grey and yellow would be awesome, too…
I think blue and brown would be beautiful colors for the bag.
Either pink and black or blue and yellow would be great colors for the bag.
I think yellow and blue would make a pretty bag. I love blue and yellow flowers.
i am thinking a nice french country blue/yellow combo or a purple/orange combo. But then again a little country western combo of soft blues, reds and browns may be my favorite!

I love this bag! I’ve ordered a Paris Apartment FQ in Apricot and hope to make a bag from that – lots of orange with touches of green, blue, yellow and lavender thrown in. I think it will be lovely, but a free class would make it that much better! Thanks for the chance to win.

I don’t know why but lately I can’t get enough aqua and red. It would make a lovely bag!
I think black and white would be nice. You can never go wrong with black and white.
I would use hot pinks, soft pinks, soft yellows and bright greens for this project.

Colorful flowers — the background would be light greens and pinks/yellows.
That would be my idea.
The colour for me would be black and brown – so that it can be taken to the office.

There would be so many great color combinations for this bag. To start, I’d love to do one in shades of blue with some pops of orange.
My favourite color is blue, so the picture on top of this post is very appealing.
Natural burlap and lime green accents.
I know it may sound odd to some, but I love the combination of purple and lime green. They are both so vibrant that they just pop when they are together.

I would consider my “Patchwork Rose Purse” to be in my colour choicees would have to be
~Cornflower Blue~ for the base of the purse.Then,the accent colours I would pick are a pale yellow,sage green,& ecru for all the splashes of “happy” color this way the purse would be used by me most year ’round!
