Want to hear my traumatic story about Ric Rac?
Ah, the memories of my teenage years working at the craft store are still etched vividly in my mind. It was an exciting job, surrounded by colorful fabrics, ribbons, and all things crafty. However, one particular encounter left a lasting impression on me, and it involved a woman on a mission for ric rac.
I was just 15 years old, eager to learn the ropes and help customers find what they needed. It was a busy day when the woman walked in, looking determined to find something specific. She came straight to me and asked for ric rac. My heart skipped a beat; I knew what it was, those cute little zig-zag trims, but I didn’t know it was called “ric rac.” I was just a teenager, after all, and hadn’t encountered the term before.
She seemed irritated by my lack of knowledge and let me know it. In no uncertain terms, she went off at me, demanding to know why I was working here if I didn’t even know what ric rac was. I tried to explain that I was still learning, but she wasn’t having any of it. She wanted to speak to the manager, and little did she know that my mom, yes, my mom, was the manager.
I nervously led her to my mom’s office, my heart pounding with a mix of anxiety and embarrassment. The woman continued to express her frustration, thinking she had the upper hand because she was older and wiser. But little did she know what my mom was capable of.
My mom calmly listened to her complaints and then did something that surprised us both. She told the woman that I was still young and learning, and instead of belittling me, she should be patient and give me an opportunity to grow. My mom, in her wisdom, reminded the woman that we all start somewhere, and it’s important to nurture and support young minds rather than crush them with harsh words.
As the woman left, I felt a mix of relief and gratitude. My mom had defended me, not just as her daughter but as a young employee trying her best. From that day on, I vowed never to look at ric rac the same way again. It may be a cute trim, but it also served as a reminder that kindness and understanding go a long way, especially when dealing with young minds.
Now, years later, I’ve grown more confident in my craft knowledge, thanks to my mom’s encouragement and belief in me. And whenever I see ric rac, I can’t help but smile and remember that valuable lesson learned in the craft store that day. To this day, I’m grateful for my mom’s unwavering support and for teaching me that everyone deserves a chance to learn and grow, no matter their age or experience.
