I’m making a few little button-down tops (Yum-with puffy sleeves of course!) for myself and need to put in buttonholes. I haven’t done them in awhile so googled “buttonhole placement” to get a refresher course. Thought I’d share my findings, as buttonholes aren’t really like riding a bike- you can forget how to do them! (Although I did forget how to ride a bike- but that’s another story!)
I do remember that for women’s tops, you place the holes on the right hand-side and for men’s tops, the holes are on the left side.
This is from the College of Agriculture and Home Economics at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. I cannot believe that “Home Economics” is still a possible major! But this tutorial is easy to understand and gives the 411 on placement for both bound buttonholes and standard ones.
SewHow has this breezy explanation on buttonhole placement.
Lastly, about.com’s Sewing section offers up even more info on buttonholes.
And with that, I have re-learned everything I need to know about buttonholes!
