Make Your Own Blanket Hoodie, Just like a Oodie – Sewing Pattern

May 24, 2021 by Shellie Wilson

Oodie Sewing Pattern

Making your own Oodie or wearable blanket

Basically, Oodie is a blanket that you can wear and it is made with thick fleece fabric to keep you warm during winter. The original Oodie comes in fun and funky designs.

You can however choose to make your blanket hoodie using plain blanket fabric or fleece. Personally, when making my own I prefer to use bright and funky designs. If I can not find the right fabric to sew I pick up discounted blankets from Dollar tree or similar.

Get the sewing pattern here for making your own blanket hoodie, which was made famous by the Oodie brand. Oodie has now expanded to offer a full range of products, but their original and most popular item is still the wearable blanket. And now, with this sewing pattern, you can make your own Oodie at home.

Are Oodies easy to sew?

The answer is yes! If you have some basic sewing skills, you can definitely sew your own Oodie. The pattern is designed to be simple and easy to follow, even for beginners. However, as with any new sewing project, it’s always a good idea to practice first. That’s why we suggest using some inexpensive fleece to practice on before moving on to more expensive fabrics. You can buy cheap fleece for just a few dollars a metre, which is cheap enough to practice on.

With this sewing pattern, you’ll learn how to make an Oodie that is just as cozy and stylish as the ones you can buy in store. So don’t wait, get your hands on the pattern and start sewing your own Oodie today!

Making your own Oodie or wearable blanket is a great way to customize the style and size of your Oodie, one issue I was having with wearing my original store-bought one , was the weight. I found them too heavy on my shoulders.  So I was able to customize my own Oodie by using a lighter fleece, I also decided to remove the hood part as it was adding weight to my shoulders when using my wearable blanket for activities.

Here is a video tutorial we found for making your own Oodie or wearable blanket.
