Easy Sew Bucket Bag Tutorial with Free Pattern

April 14, 2023 by Anne Weaver

Easy Sew Bucket Bag Tutorial with Free Pattern

Sew a cute new bag for yourself  with this fun bucket bag sewing project! This style of bag is so trendy and it looks great with anything.  A bag like this is quick to make so you can whip one up in an afternoon or less.  The shape of the bag shows off a pretty fabric print, so this is a great project for using a favorite fabric.  A drawstring closure at the top keeps everything inside, safe and sound.

The included free sewing pattern makes this bag simple to put together.  This project is easy enough for a beginner to make.  Use it as a purse, a gym bag, or even as a small overnight bag.  With the drawstring top this would also make a great bag for carrying your lunch to work.  Get the tutorial and free sewing pattern from Happiest Camper.

Making bags is fun!  If you’re looking for even more quick and cute bags to sew, here are a few ideas:

Take a couple of tea towels and turn them into a slouchy tote bag with this tea towel origami bag tutorial from Orange Bettie.  Tea towels are available in so many cute prints, and it takes just a handful of simple straight seams to make the transformation.

A messenger style bag is perfect for when you want to carry your things hand free.  This Mod Messenger Bag from Diary of a Quilter is easy to make from quilting cotton.  You could also use a home dec weight fabric.  Get the tutorial at Diary of a Quilter.

Backpacks are also a fun way to carry your things hands-free.  Especially when your backpack is sewn from a cute fabric print.  This easy backpack sewing tutorial from Alice & Lois shows how to make a simple drawstring backpack from quilting cotton.  It’s lined and has an optional pocket on the outside.
