Free Sewing pattern: Make Some DIY Elf On The Shelf Clothes

December 6, 2016 by Anne Weaver

elf-2Do you do the Elf on the Shelf at your house? My daughter is just old enough that we missed out on that, but it’s fun to see what my friends come up with.  Kristen from Create Kids Couture can help you up your Elf on the Shelf game with a free pattern to make clothes for your mischevious elf.  They’re super easy to make and a fun way to use up your scraps.  The pattern includes a top, pants, and a skirt.

Every year, parents around the world have to come up with creative ideas to make their Elf on the Shelf move around the house. But sometimes, these ideas can backfire in hilarious ways.

Take my friend, for example. For one of her elf ideas, she decided to “send” her elf on a hot air balloon ride, complete with a little basket and some helium-filled balloons. But after letting go of the balloon, it didn’t go up – it went straight into the fireplace! So there her elf was, stuck in the chimney with a basket of balloons around it. Needless to say, her kids were very confused when they found it.

It was a funny mishap, but it’s a reminder that not all Elf on the Shelf ideas is created equal. So if you’re looking for some new elf ideas, be sure to do your research first – otherwise, you might end up with a few elf-related disasters of your own!

Monday Musings: My Fabric Stash is Judging Me (A Love-Hate Relationship)

I have a problem. Well, several problems, but today we’re talking about the 37 yards of fabric currently taking up residence in my closet. Some of it’s been there so long it could legally vote. That beautiful linen? Bought for a specific project in 2018. The designer wool? “Too nice to cut.” The rainbow of quilting cotton? Well, it was on sale.

Every time I open that closet, I swear the fabric whispers, “Remember when you were going to make that dress?” The guilt is real. But so is the joy of petting my hoard like a fabric dragon sitting on her treasure.

Last week I tried the KonMari method. I got as far as “does this spark joy?” before buying three more yards of floral voile. Some habits die hard.
