LOVED the viking hat idea, but I modified the pattern somewhat. I cut a lining for the hat as well and that enabled me to add braided yarn “ear flaps”, giving the hat. I sewed 60 individual lengths of yarn onto the wrong side of the lining at the seams after turning the edge of the brim under and basting. Then I sewed the hair with lining to the outside of the hat with horns attached, using a zigzag stitch at the edge of the cap. Lastly, I sewed a ribbon with a nordic pattern around the cap to hide seams and add a little flaire. I braided the yarn “hair” on each side and trimmed. Can’t wait to give it to my granddaughter!
