Mary Beth from Retro Monkeys shares a free pattern at the Pattern Patter blog for making a simple felt clutch or envelope purse. She suggests it as a good first sewing project, and I agree. In fact, my first sewing project years ago was a very similar purse. The sewing is just a two straight seams, and a snap for a closure. Made from felt, there’s no need to finish any raw edges or make a lining. Even though it’s a simple bag, you can embellish it up with a fancy button or applique. Or, change out the felt for vinyl or leather.

Perfect for my grand-daughter who’s been nagging me to let her sew something. She’s just eight but extremely interested.
Up to now I didn’t have anything suitable. I know she’s going to love this.
