There are plenty of books and products designed to help kids learn to sew. This isn’t a new thing – they’ve been around for years, Mary Beth from Retro Monkeys gives a history of these products and lessons at the Pattern Patter blog. She includes photos of vintage sewing notebooks (with the child’s stitching included), miniature mannequins (fashion dolls), and sewing cards.
