This mini coin purse is the perfect little sewing project for using up your fabric scraps! Karen Pratt from Creamcraft Goods has a tutorial at Therm O Web blog showing how you can make one. It’s so cute! This is a fun little project you can whip up in less than half an hour.
You’ll need fabric scraps measuring just 3 ½” x 9 ½”. And if your scraps aren’t that large, that’s not a big deal. You can just piece some smaller scraps together to make one piece that size. This one uses a patchwork of tiny squares to make the outside of the pouch. The lining is cut from a solid (non-pieced) scrap. It takes just a few easy seams to make the pouch.
And what can you use this little pouch for? Here are just a few ideas:
Coin purse to hold change and folded paper money.
Ear bud pouch
Jewelry pouch (great for travel!)
Gift pouch
Small candies or toys
I’m sure you can think of a million more uses for these little pouches. You can easily adjust the measurements to make them in different sizes, too.
A plastic snap makes a fast and simple closure so this is truly a quick and easy project. If you’ve only ever set metal snaps before, you’ll be happy with how much easier it is to set a plastic snap. I’ve always struggled getting enough pressure on the pliers to set a metal snap evenly, but plastic snaps set easily and evenly.
If you don’t have a plastic snap setter (and don’t want to use this project as an excuse to get one), you can easily substitute hook and loop tape for the snap as the closure.
