Short Sleeve Mid Length Kimono Free Sewing Pattern

April 11, 2023 by Anne Weaver

Short Sleeve Mid Length Kimono Free Sewing Pattern

Add a lightweight layer to your spring outfit with a short sleeve kimono.  They’re easy to sew and can dress up a simple t-shirt and jeans outfit.  Just throw on a kimono and you outfit goes from super casual to pulled together and ready to go out.  This short sleeve mid-length kimono is a free sewing pattern from So Sew Easy.

You can sew the kimono from any lightweight fabric, but they look dressier made from a silky or sheer fabric.  The simplicity of the kimono makes it a great fabric for using the silky or sheer fabrics.  These fabrics can be tricky to sew with but this pattern, with just a few pieces and mostly straight seams, you’ll be able to use these fabrics without any trouble at all.

This is a quick project that you can easily complete in an afternoon.  Sew it today, wear it tonight!

If you’re looking for more quick sewing projects to update your spring wardrobe, how about these:

  • A pretty gathered skirt with a flat front waistband. Heather Handmade has a tutorial showing how to make one.  The flat front waistband is a neat finish that also reduces bulk at the waist, while the elastic in the back makes it easy to just pull on without messing with zippers or other closures.
  • A jumpsuit or lightweight overalls. You can get a free pattern from Life Sew Savory.  You can make them from linen or a lightweight cotton.  Just add a t-shirt and you’ve got a fun spring outfit!  On warmer days, sub a tank top for the t-shirt or on colder days wear it with a long-sleeved tee instead.
  • A t-shirt dress, like this one from It’s Always Autumn. It gives you all of the comfort of a t-shirt, but in a dress!  It’s great for warm days but with tights and a jean jacket you’ve also got a nice outfit for a cooler spring day.
