Simple Fabric Coaster Sewing Tutorial

Simple Fabric Coaster Sewing Tutorial

Don’t let a sweaty drink ruin your tabletop!  Fabric coasters are easy to sew and will help protect your tables and counters from getting rings from your drinking glasses.  Heather Handmade has a tutorial showing how to sew a simple fabric coaster.  These are super quick to sew, and you probably already have everything you need to make them.  You can sew up a set of them in 30 minutes or less – and you can use your fabric scraps!

A basic coaster is easy to sew and only takes a few straight seams, so this is a great project for a beginner who is still learning to sew.

The free pattern at Heather Handmade includes the dimensions to cut to make the coasters in several different sizes.  This is super handy for using scraps because you can choose the coaster size that most effectively uses the size scraps you have.  Go to Heather Handmade for the free sewing tutorial for making a simple fabric coaster.

If you’re looking for other simple sewing projects you can use around the house, how about:

Fabric Napkins – Fabric napkins are easy to sew and are a nice way to add some color to your tabletop.  Replace your disposable paper napkins with a set of cloth napkins!  This post by AppleGreen Cottage shows two easy ways to sew a fabric napkin.

Placemat – Just like coasters protect your table from a sweaty glass, a placemat can help protect your table from messy eaters.  They also add color and drama to a tablesetting, so if you want to elevate a simple dinner into something more, sew a set of placemats for your table.  Hello Creative Family has an easy sewing tutorial that shows how to make them.  If you can sew a coaster, you can sew these easy placemats!  It only takes 10 minutes or so to sew a simple placemat!

Twist Wire Headband Sewing Tutorial

Cute summer hair is easy with a twist wire headband like this.  Headed to the beach?  To the park?  Just running errands around town?  Pull your hair back in a twist wire headband and you’ve got fun summer hair with no fuss.  There’s no need to tie a knot – just twist the ends of the headband around each other and the wires inside will hold it in place.  It’s also great for holding your hair up in a bun.  Perfect for hot summer days when you want to keep your hair off your neck!

Petro at Easy Peasy Creative shows how you can sew a twist wire headband.  It’s a quick little project you can sew in about 30 minutes.  Though I have a feeling that once you sew one, you’ll want to sew a bunch!  And why not?  Because if one cute headband is good, a stack of them is even better!  And then you can have one to match any outfit.  Head to Easy Peasy Creative for the twist wire headband sewing tutorial.

Are you looking for more things to sew for easy summer style?  Here are some suggestions:

This kimono cardigan is easy to make and dresses up even the most casual of outfits!  It also makes a great swim coverup if you’re headed to the beach or pool.  It takes just a few seams and there’s no pattern required.  Use lightweight, flowy fabrics to create a beautiful drape.  Go to Simple Simon & Co for an easy sewing tutorial.

Take a basic t-shirt pattern and use it to sew a beautiful maxi dress!  It’s Always Autumn has a tutorial showing how.  Maxi dresses are the perfect summer dress.  Just throw on a maxi dress with some cute sandals and you’ve got a complete summer outfit.  It doesn’t get easier than that!
