Tutorial: 4 pillow covers plus extra from a $20 tablecloth

May 26, 2014 by Anne Weaver

Tutorial: 4 pillow covers plus extra from a $20 tableclothWhile I often use thrifted home dec items, such as tablecloths or sheets, as a source of inexpensive yardage, the price of new home dec items often holds me back from using them as fabric.  But Karen from Sew Many Ways breaks it down and compares the price per yard of a purchased, new tablecloth with the price of regular priced decorator fabric from the fabric store.  She made good use of this one large piece of fabric, creating four throw pillow covers, with enough scrap left over to make a table runner, napkins, or placemats for her dining table.  Her post includes a tutorial showing how to make the pillow covers.  Go to Sew Many Ways for her tutorial and the breakdown of the cost per yard of her tablecloth fabric.

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern

The bag is simple, uses very little fabric (about 2/3rds of a fat quarter), has no fussy inside pockets (although you can add your own if you like), and takes me well less than 30 minutes to print the pattern, cut out and sew. But quick and simple doesn’t mean it’s not awesome!

It’s the sort of bag that is versatile enough to be used for lots of applications, not just cosmetics and toiletries. Keep all your pens and pencils in order, use it for a small first aid kit for the car, keep it in your desk at work for a few headache pills and other personal supplies.

Make some for yourself, for gifts or to sell.
