Jennifer from The Life of Jennifer Dawn guest blogs at Sew.Craft.Create. (Made by Heidi) with a tutorial for turning a baby food jar into a pincushion. You can stick the pins in the pincushion on the lid, and then use the jar underneath to store small sewing items. Go to the tutorial.

I love the idea of using a mason jar, even a pint would be a nice size. I think making the insert in the lid loose would allow you to turn the cushion to the inside when traveling, or storing. Make the inside of the lid pretty too, then flip it. I thought they would make great gifts for college students. They can quickly sew on a button or fix and hem or something. Great idea! Great craft sale item too!
