Bandanas are a great source of fabric for sewing projects. The large squares of fabric are inexpensive and prehemmed. Ginger from Ginger Snaps shares a tutorial on her blog showing how to use two bandanas to make a pair of shorts for a small child. Be sure to check out the way she makes her pattern. Rather than creating a pattern for the pieces that will become the shorts, she creates a pattern for the bit of fabric you’ll cut away from the squares (negative space). Clever! Get the tutorial.
