Here’s an idea for those fabrics you’ve collected but never seem to make the cut for other projects, the “dogs” of your fabric stash. Cut them into strips and coil them up into a fabric coaster! The patterns you don’t care for will be reduced to spots of color and print on a round coaster. Angie Padilla from Angie’s Bits n’ Pieces shares a free downloadable project sheet at Pattern Spot explaining how to do it. (You’ll need a free account to download the file.) Can these be made larger to make a rug?

I suppose you could do this to make a small rug, but the larger (and heavier) the piece gets the more difficult it will be to maneuver it under the sewing machine needle. If you want to make a rag, you might try making a braided rag rug like this: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/02/braided-rag-rug.html
