Tutorial: DIY Maxi Skirt

July 8, 2011 by Anne Weaver

Megan from Brassy Apple and Brassy Blossom guest blogs in the July Jamboree at Sew Dang Cute with a tutorial showing how to make a maxi skirt out of two t-shirts.  What a cool skirt!  And don’t worry if you don’t have two identical shirts.  The t-shirts don’t have to match because she pieces them together in a striped pattern.  Get the tutorial.

I made this tonight! So cute!

I made a few changes because I only had 2 plain gray t-shirts to work with. So, I made one seam together in the middle of the skirt – but I sewed both cut ends together. I wasn’t sure if it would look ok, but it turned out really cute!!

This left the top and bottom of the skirt with the original t-shirt finished hem. I didn’t have to hem the bottom, and I didn’t have to make a casing for the elastic. I just cut a slit small enough for the elastic to slide in. Being knit, the small hole is virtually invisible and won’t ravel. Plus, it’s in the inside so no one will see it!

Thanks for sharing this idea! I plan on making many more! It was so easy
