Ginger from Gingersnap Crafts shares a tutorial for making a faux leather book cover with a simple button and thread closure.  You can make them in any size to fit any blank journal or book.  She uses faux leather from a table runner but you could also use faux leather yardage if you prefer.

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern
