Sewing Tutorial: How to thread a serger

March 29, 2018 by Anne Weaver

Tutorial: How to thread a sergerThere’s nothing like my serger coming unthreaded to throw a monkey wrench in my sewing plans.  That lower looper is so tricky to thread!  I don’t think I’ve ever threaded it successfully on the first try, and never without a little cussing and crying.  The threading path shown on my serger is helpful but there’s not enough detail to show exactly what needs to be done.  Sherri from Thread Riding Hood shares a tutorial at Craftsy showing how to thread a serger, with full color photographs of each step.  Her tutorial shows the threading for her machine (a Kenmore model 385.16622), but the threading path will be similar for most sergers.

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern

The bag is simple, uses very little fabric (about 2/3rds of a fat quarter), has no fussy inside pockets (although you can add your own if you like), and takes me well less than 30 minutes to print the pattern, cut out and sew. But quick and simple doesn’t mean it’s not awesome!

It’s the sort of bag that is versatile enough to be used for lots of applications, not just cosmetics and toiletries. Keep all your pens and pencils in order, use it for a small first aid kit for the car, keep it in your desk at work for a few headache pills and other personal supplies.

Make some for yourself, for gifts or to sell.
