When you’re putting a hem on a lightweight or sheer fabric, especially a hem that is curved, a rolled hem might be what you need to do. You can make a rolled hem by hand, but you can also use your sewing machine. As an impatient sewist, I opt for machine sewing as much possible. Colette Patterns shares a tutorial on their blog, The Coletterie, showing how to make the rolled hem on your machine. You’ll need a special foot, a lightweight needle, and some practice but it’s worth the effort for the nice finish.

I’m more impatient with my machine on delicate items. I find hand stitching soothing. May be because I love embroidering stuff so much? That said – Collete has fabulous tutorials! I shall look!
