Melissa from Blank Slate Patterns and Melly Sews shows an easy way to patch kids’ jeans. Instead of sewing a patch just over the worn out knee, she replaces the entire knee with a strip of contrasting fabric. Her method does double duty, fixing the hole and lengthening the pants at the same time. Go to Melly Sews to see how she does it. Her tutorial is start of a month long series cohosted with Sabra from Sew a Straight Line that focuses on sewing your own jeans, and mending or altering jeans you already own.
