The squares in the patchwork are designed to each hold a different type of needle for your sewing machine. And to make it easy to tell which type of needle goes in which square, the type of fabric for the patchwork relates to the type of needle used to sew it. So, a denim needle would go in the denim square, a ball point needle in a knit fabric, etc. She shares a tutorial showing how you can make one for yourself.
