A baby hem lets you get a nice smooth hem on a curved piece of fabric.  (Just try doing a deeper hem on a curved piece and you’ll see what a mess it can be.)  A baby hem is also a pretty way to finish off a sheer fabric, when a deeper hem would show through the fabric.  I’ve also found baby hems to be helpful when hemming fabrics that don’t like to take a crease.  Another benefit of a baby hem is that it’s easy to sew.  Angel from Fleece Fun shares a tutorial showing how to do it!
