Most sewing patterns come with instructions telling how to put them together. But when you’re making your own patterns, you’ll have to figure that part out yourself. There’s a standard order of construction that pattern makers use for garment construction. For instance, the first thing you’ll do is sew all the darts, tucks, and pleats. Justine from Sew Country Chick has a blog post telling what that order of construction is. File this knowledge away for the next time you’re sewing a garment with no instructions, or perhaps with instructions that are too convoluted to follow. She includes a printable cheat sheet you can download, print, and keep on hand.
