18 DIY Patterns For Sunglasses Holders

March 29, 2022 by Shellie Wilson

Sunglasses and eyewear are an important accessory for many people, and it’s essential to keep them protected from scratches, dust, and other damage. If you have invested in a nice pair of designer sunglasses or eyewear, you’ll want to make sure that you keep them in good condition. One way to do this is by making your own sunglass case.

Sunglass cases are a small and simple sewing project that is perfect for beginners. These patterns are easy to follow and will help you create a protective case for your sunglasses or eyewear. Not only will these cases keep your glasses safe, but they will also make it easy to find them in your bag or purse.

Another great thing about making your own sunglass case is that it’s a great way to use up scraps of odd fabric that you might have lying around. Scrap fabric is the perfect way to make these at a low cost. Plus, you can make a variety of different cases using different fabric scraps and patterns, so you can have a unique case for every pair of glasses you own.

These patterns are also perfect for making gifts for friends and family. Sunglass cases make great stocking stuffers, party favors, and gift toppers. They are easy to make, and you can make them for a low cost. Plus, because they are small, you can easily make multiple cases in one sitting.

Personally, I have a tendency to lose, sit on, or have my dog steal my sunglasses, so I never pay more than $5 for a pair of sunglasses, but that’s just me. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to keep them protected, and these patterns will help me do just that.

Making your own sunglass case is a great way to keep your sunglasses and eyewear protected and easy to find in your bag or purse. These patterns are easy to follow, and they are perfect for beginners. Plus, you can make them at a low cost using scrap fabric, and they make great gifts for friends and family. So, go ahead and give it a try, you’ll be glad you did!

When it comes to turning corners on small projects like small purses and sunglass cases, I’ve got some handy tips to ensure your finished creations look crisp and professional. So, let’s dive in and make those corners sharp and stylish!

Clip Your Corners for Clean Lines: Before turning the fabric right side out, carefully clip the corners of your small project. Snip diagonally across the corner, being careful not to cut too close to the stitches. This will reduce bulk and help your corners lay flat and neat.

Use a Point Turner for Precision: Invest in a handy point turner tool – it’s a game-changer! Gently insert the rounded end into the corner of your project and push it out to create a sharp, precise corner. It’s perfect for getting those tight corners on sunglass cases and small pouches.

Press, Press, Press!: After turning your project right side out, don’t forget to press your seams. A good press with an iron will help your corners hold their shape and give your project a professional finish.

Go Slow and Steady: When sewing near the corners, slow down your stitching. As you approach the corner, take a couple of extra stitches before pivoting. This will help anchor the stitches and prevent them from unraveling when you turn your project right side out.

Trim Excess Seam Allowance: If you find your corners are still a bit bulky, carefully trim the excess seam allowance. Just be cautious not to cut into your stitches! Trimming will help reduce bulk and allow your corners to lay flat.

Practice Makes Perfect: Don’t be discouraged if your first few corners aren’t as sharp as you’d like. Turning corners neatly takes practice, so keep at it! The more small projects you sew, the more confident and precise your corners will become.

Experiment with Different Seam Allowances: Adjusting your seam allowance can also make a difference in how your corners turn out. Experiment with a slightly smaller or larger seam allowance to find what works best for your fabric and project.

Choose the Right Needle and Thread: For small sewing projects, opt for a fine needle and lightweight thread. Using the right tools will ensure your stitches are clean and won’t leave noticeable holes in your fabric.

Remember, practice and patience are the keys to mastering those sharp corners. So, embrace the learning process, and soon you’ll be turning corners like a pro, adding a touch of finesse to all your small sewing creations. Happy sewing and happy corner-turning!
