January 16, by Anne Weaver. Leave a Comment

Skirts are fun – but skirts with pockets are perfection!  You get all of the dressy of a skirt but with pockets to hold your keys and phone.  I’m not sure why it’s so hard to buy a skirt with pockets, but the good thing is if you sew you can make your own!

Just about any kind of skirt can have a pocket.  Gathered skirt, circle skirt, pencil skirt, you name it.  And there are plenty of types of pockets, too – patch pocket, in-seam pockets, and more.  There are countless combinations you can come up with.  We’ve rounded up 9 of them to share with you today.

Sewing skirts with pockets is a great way to add functionality and style to your wardrobe. Not only do pockets add a practical element to your skirts, but they also provide a fun and unique way to express your personal style.

One of the best things about sewing skirts with pockets is that they are relatively easy to make. Many patterns are designed for beginners and include detailed instructions and diagrams to guide you through the process. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when sewing skirts with pockets.

It’s important to use the right type of fabric. Look for fabrics that have a nice drape and that are not too thick or stiff. Cotton, linen, and lightweight wool are all great options. Also, pay attention to the weight of the fabric. Lightweight fabrics are best for summer skirts, while medium-weight fabrics are good for fall and spring.

Pay attention to the placement of the pockets. Pockets that are too low or too high can look awkward and unbalanced. The pattern should indicate the correct placement for the pockets, but if not, it’s best to try the skirt on and mark the placement before sewing.

Take your time and be patient when sewing. Sewing skirts with pockets requires a little bit more attention to detail than other types of skirts, but the end result is well worth it.

Sewing skirts with pockets are a fun and easy way to add functionality and style to your wardrobe. By paying attention to the right type of fabric, the placement of pockets, and taking your time while sewing, you can create a beautiful skirt that you will love to wear. Remember that it’s also important to get familiar with sewing basics if you’re new to making your own clothes. With patience and practice, you’ll be able to make a skirt that fits you perfectly and feels comfortable to wear.
