Shauna from Shwin & Shwin shares a free pattern and tutorial for making her 10-minute boy’s neck tie.
They take 10 minutes (9 minutes and 37 seconds to be exact) to sew, and your son will have a tie to match any outfit.
Her post is part of a month-long series of projects you can make in 30 minutes or less. And don’t think this tie project is just good for the boys. One of my tweeny daughter’s fave new accessories is a black cotton necktie studded with gems at the bottom.
Neck ties are surprisingly easy to make, and this DIY necktie tutorial is perfect for anyone who is trying t match colors and fabrics for a wedding party or event.
Hers came from Justice, but you could totally make one yourself using Shauna’s pattern and tutorial. Go to Shwin & Shwin to get the pattern and the tute.

Anne thanks for posting this – I went over to the site, found the tutorial, fell in love, called my local fabric store (here in Canada) and found out they carry buttonhole elastic (I’ve never heard of it before) – I’ll be able to whip some of these up for the little boys in our family 😀

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I need a white tie for my son, but I don’t want to spend $20 or even $7 for something he’ll only wear one day.
