Book Review – Zigzag Rope Sewing Projects

July 25, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

As someone who is always on the lookout for new and creative ways to craft, I was thrilled to discover Zigzag Rope Sewing Projects. This comprehensive guide provides clear instructions, helpful tips, and lots of inspiration for all levels of sewers, from beginners to advanced.

Author Katherine Lile, the owner of The Mountain Thread Company, is a fourth-generation quilter who brings her expertise and infectious enthusiasm to the craft of rope sewing. With her step-by-step instructions and coordinating photography, I felt confident in my ability to create the projects in the book. And with the expert tips and finishing ideas, I was able to add my own personal touch to each project and make them truly unique.

With 16 projects to choose from, including durable and decorative bags, baskets, coasters, and other accessories and home décor items, there is something for everyone. The introductory sections on materials, supplies, techniques, stitching tips, and advanced shaping techniques were especially helpful, providing a solid foundation to build upon.

As I worked my way through the book, I found myself drawn in by the excitement of this new craft. I was amazed at how easy it was to coil rope and join it together using a simple zigzag stitch. I loved the versatility of the projects and the endless possibilities for design, from painting and fabric wrapping to dying and adding handles.

If you’re looking for a fun and easy craft to try, look no further than Zigzag Rope Sewing Projects. Katherine brings her expertise, wit, and contagious enthusiasm to life in this complete guide to all things rope.

Perfect Pattern Matching: Plaids, Stripes And Beyond

In this class, popular sewing instructor Amy Alan is here to help you create garments that look better than anything you’ll find on the rack. She starts by showing you how to choose the right sewing pattern for plaids, stripes, or prints and how to estimate the yardage you’ll need. From there, she guides you through the process of tracing your pattern pieces to ensure that your patterns match across seams.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Amy takes you beyond the basics of pattern matching and shows you how to identify the type of stripes or plaids you’re working with, and how to create pattern layouts for matching these and other patterns with confidence. And for those who want to go the extra mile, Amy even shows you how to use the bias grain of your fabric to create pockets, plackets, and cuffs.

With step-by-step guidance on how to match patterns as you sew straight seams, curved seams, and even invisible zipper seams, this class is the ultimate guide to perfect pattern matching. So, whether you’re an experienced sewer or just starting out, this tutorial will help you take your skills to the next level.

Amy Alan is a talented instructor who teaches sewing at Modern Domestic in Portland, Ore., and blogs at Really Handmade. She’s been crafting since she was a child and has always had a passion for turning the everyday into art. So, what are you waiting for? Join Amy in the “Perfect Pattern Matching: Plaids, Stripes & Beyond” video tutorial and start creating garments that are truly one-of-a-kind!
