Sewing Pattern: Girl’s skirt with built-in shorts

September 6, 2010 by Anne Weaver

When my daughter first started school, I couldn’t figure out why she didn’t want to wear any of the pretty skirts that were hanging in her closet.  It turns out that the child just wanted to play on the monkey bars without her panties showing!  Ellen from The Long Thread shares a free pattern and tutorial for making a girl’s skirt with a pair of shorts built in.  The pattern is for a size 6 girls.  If you need another size, you could probably adapt a sewing pattern you already have to work with her tutorial.  Go to the free pattern and tutorial.

Thank you for this pattern. I have been trying to find one!! I have 2 Granddaughters that are feminine yet tom boys so they wear shorts under their dresses and I love to sew for them and can’t wait to use your pattern!!

Thank you very much for the pattern. I have now made two for my granddaughter, one in cotton and one in jersey. The one in jersey is a lot better as it stretches around the crutch. My granddaughter is very happy as she is a tom boy aged 6 and loves nothing more than swinging on the bars at the park.
