So you’re thinking about making your own pants, huh? That’s great! Making your own clothes is a fun and rewarding experience, and I’m here to help you with the fabric requirements.
The size of your pants will play a big role in how much fabric you need. The standard fabric width is usually around 45 inches, and on average, I’d say you’ll need about 2.5 yards of fabric to make a pair of adult pants. But keep in mind, this can vary depending on the style you’re making. For example, wider leg pants may need a little more fabric than a more fitted style.
The type of fabric you choose will also impact the amount you need. Lighter fabrics like cotton or linen won’t require as much as a heavier weight fabric like denim. That’s because lighter fabrics drape more, so you don’t need as much to cover the same amount of surface area.
When it comes to figuring out exactly how much fabric you need, your best bet is to consult the pattern you’re using. Most patterns will have a list of fabric requirements that will tell you how much fabric is needed for each size, and any additional fabric needed for matching prints or stripes.
And one more thing to keep in mind – it’s always better to buy a little extra fabric, just in case. That way, you won’t run into any issues if you make a mistake or want to make alterations in the future. And, who knows, maybe you’ll want to make a matching top to go with your pants!

For a non pleated trouser 1.8 m of fabric is optimum with a 60 inch of width.
