Sewing Pattern Saturday Review: Irish Hare Sewing Pattern – Large Bunny Plush

January 24, 2026 by Shellie Wilson

Sewing Pattern Saturday is all about slowing down and celebrating the people behind the patterns. Each week, I feature a sewing pattern from Etsy that has caught my eye for all the right reasons – thoughtful design, clear instructions, and that little spark that makes you want to clear the table and start sewing. It’s also my way of supporting small businesses and independent designers who put real care into their work. These reviews are written from a practical, real-sewist point of view, focusing on how a pattern actually comes together and whether it’s genuinely enjoyable to make.

This week’s pattern stopped me mid-scroll. The Irish Hare Sewing Pattern is not a novelty bunny or a cartoon plush. It has a quiet, timeless charm that immediately feels special. Tall, gentle, and beautifully proportioned, it’s the kind of soft toy that looks just as at home in a nursery as it does sitting on a chair or shelf as part of the decor.

The finished hare has long limbs, a simple stitched face, and an upright seated posture that gives it real character. There’s nothing overworked or fussy about the design, which means the fabric choice really gets to shine. This is a large bunny plush, so it’s not a quick scrap project. It’s a slow, satisfying sew that rewards patience and care.

In terms of skill level, this pattern suits confident beginners through to intermediate sewists. You don’t need advanced techniques, but you do need to be comfortable sewing curves, turning pieces neatly, and taking your time with stuffing and shaping. If you’ve made a soft toy before, this will feel very manageable. If it’s your first plush project, it’s still achievable, but worth approaching at an unhurried pace.

The instructions are clear and well organised, and the construction order makes sense from start to finish. The pattern pieces are well drafted, and the proportions are what really make this design work. The long arms and legs balance beautifully, and once finished, the hare sits naturally without flopping or looking awkward.

Fabric choice plays a big role in the final look, and this pattern works especially well with natural materials. Linen, cotton drill, wool blends, and felted fabrics all suit the design. Because the shape and details are kept simple, it’s easy to personalise without losing the original feel. Subtle embroidery, contrast ear linings, or even simple handmade clothing can be added if you want to make it truly your own. It’s also a lovely option for memory sewing or keepsake projects.

Once finished, the bunny feels substantial and well balanced. It’s not overly soft in a way that loses shape, and it doesn’t feel stiff either. It’s the kind of handmade toy that becomes part of the room rather than something that’s quickly outgrown. It would make a beautiful baby gift, an heirloom toy, seasonal decor around Easter, or a meaningful handmade present.

This is a pattern for sewists who enjoy the process as much as the finished piece. It’s calm, thoughtful, and genuinely satisfying to make. The Irish Hare Sewing Pattern delivers a plush that feels timeless and well considered, and it fits perfectly into the spirit of Sewing Pattern Saturday.
