Tutorial: DIY wipe-clean placemats with fun designs

February 14, 2011 by Anne Weaver

Jen from iCandy Handmade shows how to make your own vinyl covered placemats with fun designs, far cuter than the ones you typically find at the store.   The designs she shows are for Valentine’s Day, but you could make them for other holidays (or just year-round dining) depending on fabric choice.  Go to the tutorial.

Thanks for the lessons! I’ve been interested in making some vinyl placemats for everyday.. We have 2 little ones 🙂 My concern I wanted to inquire about was how the edges look/hold-up after cutting into the fabric post vinyl application.. It seemed to me that raw fabric edges would be exposed? Would it work better to leave a little vinyl overhang on mats that would be getting regular use? Thanks so much for your time!

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern

The bag is simple, uses very little fabric (about 2/3rds of a fat quarter), has no fussy inside pockets (although you can add your own if you like), and takes me well less than 30 minutes to print the pattern, cut out and sew. But quick and simple doesn’t mean it’s not awesome!

It’s the sort of bag that is versatile enough to be used for lots of applications, not just cosmetics and toiletries. Keep all your pens and pencils in order, use it for a small first aid kit for the car, keep it in your desk at work for a few headache pills and other personal supplies.

Make some for yourself, for gifts or to sell.
