Tutorial: Enlarge a sewing pattern without using a photocopier

September 25, 2011 by Anne Weaver

When I think about enlarging a pattern, my first thought it to run down to the copy shop.  But what happens if the copy shop is closed?  CraftStylish shares a downloadable project sheet showing how to enlarge a pattern without using a photocopier.  They also point out a couple of good reasons why a photocopier may not be the best option for enlarging a pattern.  First, enlarging a pattern often creates shapes that are bigger than a standard paper size.  Second, enlarging a pattern with a photocopier can distort sizes due to the pattern lines themselves getting enlarged.  Get the tutorial.

Can anyone tell me where these types of miniatures patterns can be found, particularly those that give a measurement scale?

I answered my own question. You can find miniature patterns in lots of European and Asian sewing magazines.

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern

The bag is simple, uses very little fabric (about 2/3rds of a fat quarter), has no fussy inside pockets (although you can add your own if you like), and takes me well less than 30 minutes to print the pattern, cut out and sew. But quick and simple doesn’t mean it’s not awesome!

It’s the sort of bag that is versatile enough to be used for lots of applications, not just cosmetics and toiletries. Keep all your pens and pencils in order, use it for a small first aid kit for the car, keep it in your desk at work for a few headache pills and other personal supplies.

Make some for yourself, for gifts or to sell.
