Tutorial: Four DIY methods for making custom labels

June 2, 2012 by Anne Weaver

Printable fabric or iron on transfers are two easy ways to make your own labels.  But if you want to try something a little different, Ching from L.A.R.K. and Ching Makes Things shows four other methods for making your own labels.  They all use inexpensive materials – some of which you probably already have in your craft supplies – and can create some unique labeling for your handmade projects.  Get the tute.

I always embroder my name and date on the back of my quilts. It stays forever. I made a beautiful on for my sisterback in 1987, and she still has it, and I was so happy that the writing on the back was still there. It will out last the quilt I think. Have a Happy Day. Gerry

This is such a great idea for Christmas. After all, who doesn’t love their signature displayed as a custom label on their clothes or luggage? So cute. Thanks!

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern

The bag is simple, uses very little fabric (about 2/3rds of a fat quarter), has no fussy inside pockets (although you can add your own if you like), and takes me well less than 30 minutes to print the pattern, cut out and sew. But quick and simple doesn’t mean it’s not awesome!

It’s the sort of bag that is versatile enough to be used for lots of applications, not just cosmetics and toiletries. Keep all your pens and pencils in order, use it for a small first aid kit for the car, keep it in your desk at work for a few headache pills and other personal supplies.

Make some for yourself, for gifts or to sell.
