Tutorial: Layered shamrock hair clip

March 7, 2011 by Anne Weaver

Fleece Fun! shares a tutorial for making a shamrock hair clip for St. Patrick’s Day.  The layered green satin shamrocks are singed so they curl up around the edges, a festive variation of the singed edge fabric flowers that are so trendy right now.  Get the tute.

this is a very cute hair clip, but four-leaf clovers are not shamrocks! shamrocks have three leaves and only three leaves! st. patrick taught about the holy trinity on a three-leaf shamrock.

Kathy, I would assume that it was an honest mistake and that the author did not intend to offend anyone. I was also unaware of the difference between a shamrock and a four-leaf clover. If you want to make a true shamrock for a hair clip, I’m sure that it would be easy enough to alter her pattern. –Anne

My apologises! I did not know there was a difference – tomorrow I will post a second pattern with a three leaf clover. Thank you for the quick lesson!

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern

The bag is simple, uses very little fabric (about 2/3rds of a fat quarter), has no fussy inside pockets (although you can add your own if you like), and takes me well less than 30 minutes to print the pattern, cut out and sew. But quick and simple doesn’t mean it’s not awesome!

It’s the sort of bag that is versatile enough to be used for lots of applications, not just cosmetics and toiletries. Keep all your pens and pencils in order, use it for a small first aid kit for the car, keep it in your desk at work for a few headache pills and other personal supplies.

Make some for yourself, for gifts or to sell.
