Carrie from Making Lemonade shows how you can sew a simple throw blanket to keep you warm on the cooler autumn and winter nights.  Add in painted stripes for a knock-off Pendleton look, or keep it simple and skip the stripes.  You can also choose to make it a single layer for a lighter weight blanket, or a double-sided blanket for exra warmth and extra color.
