Amy from One Artsy Mama made a special pillowcase for a child with sensory sensitivities related to touch.  He had been having trouble sleeping because the fabric on his pillowcase bothered him.  But when she let him choose the fabrics, the pillowcase no longer bothered him and he was able to sleep.  In case you’re wondering, he chose a robot flannel for the main pillowcase and a nubby minky for the trim.  The pillowcase itself is simple to make, and she shares a tutorial showing how she made it.  Even if your child doesn’t have sensory sensitivities, I bet he or she would love a special pillowcase made with soft fabrics of their choosing.

  1. You really shouldn’t call this a sensory pillowcase it’s very misleading. It’s just a regular pillowcase right?

    • I don’t think I’d call it misleading. It IS a regular pillowcase, but made with a child with touch-related sensitivities in mind. What makes this pillowcase different is that the child is able to choose fabrics that soothe rather than irritate him. We only have so much space in a post title, so I tried to be accurate as possible while still keeping the title brief. –Anne

  2. I have asthma and adout haft the people I know to I can not sleep on any kind of feathers down. It might help.

  3. Many people have sensory issues that can be disturbing. I recently had to replace my bedding with microfiber because regular sheets (even high thread count) can be too rough feeling to me. We are all different – kudos to this mom for finding a way to accommodate her child’s special needs.
