I LOVE this! I was sorry to see all the negative comments on the tutorial page 🙁 I agree you have to be careful, but in my tweens and teens we played with mermaid tails at the lake, and it is still one of my favorite memories!
oh but it is so dangerous!! any child would LOVE it, i would have loved it-but now with my own kids there is no way i would let them use that-and they both can swim at 16months and 3years. i would never make something for them that bound up their feet! it just makes my heart truly hurt to see something so dangerous!
Honestly, I don’t ever leave my child unattended in a swimmig pool, and she doesn’t even have one of these mermaid tails. Even a little wading pool in the driveway can become a drowning hazard when a child is unattended. If the parents are there with the children and are attentive, they should be able to watch for any signs of distress.
I just made two of these for my daughters, but left the feet open and a 8″ slit up one side. I intend to cover it with a tulle tail. They tried them out and had no problem walking across the yard and swimming in them. My 10 and 11 year old love them.
