Tutorial: Using a ruffler foot to gather fabric

September 9, 2013 by Anne Weaver

how-to-set-up-the-ruffler-footFor such a wondrous little attachment, the ruffler foot sure looks intimidating.  There are so many complicated looking parts on it that work together to make the fabric ruffle as it goes under the presser foot.  And dials and knobs to adjust ruffle depth and frequency.  And then there’s the claw-looking piece that stabilizes the foot on the needle bar!  Kate from See Kate Sew takes the scary out of the ruffler foot with a tutorial showing how to install it and how to use it to gather up your fabric into pretty ruffles.  Go to her tute to see how to use your ruffler foot.

Easy Cosmetics Bag Sewing Pattern

The bag is simple, uses very little fabric (about 2/3rds of a fat quarter), has no fussy inside pockets (although you can add your own if you like), and takes me well less than 30 minutes to print the pattern, cut out and sew. But quick and simple doesn’t mean it’s not awesome!

It’s the sort of bag that is versatile enough to be used for lots of applications, not just cosmetics and toiletries. Keep all your pens and pencils in order, use it for a small first aid kit for the car, keep it in your desk at work for a few headache pills and other personal supplies.

Make some for yourself, for gifts or to sell.
