When you’re piecing together strips of fabric (e.g., to make a ruffle), the seams are less noticable if they’re sewn on the diagonal. The only problem is that it can be tricky getting those diagonal edges to line up right.  Palak from Make It Handmade shares her method for piecing on the diagonal and getting the edges to line up.  She shows it on serged seams, but this works for regular sewing machines as well.  Get the tutorial.
